Haliable — Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 26, 2026

Haliable is a halal-food barcode scanner. We built it to need as little of your data as possible. This policy explains exactly what the app touches.

Scanning happens on your device

The camera and barcode decoding run entirely on your device. Your scan history is stored only on your device and is never sent to us. To look up a scanned product, the app sends just the barcode number (not your identity) to two public food databases: Open Food Facts and the USDA FoodData Central. We do not retain those lookups.

What we collect (only if you choose to contribute)

Browsing and scanning never require an account. You only sign in — with Sign in with Apple — if you submit a manual review or add a store to the map. In that case we process:

We do not collect this data for advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. There are no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.

Who processes your data

Your control: export and deletion

In Settings ▸ Data & Privacy you can export your data as a JSON file at any time. In Settings ▸ Account you can delete your account: this erases your reviews, store submissions, votes, and photos from our servers, clears on-device data, revokes the Sign in with Apple token, and signs you out.

Halal verdicts are sourced, not rulings

Haliable reports published positions from halal certification bodies and scholarly references — it does not issue independent religious rulings. Always verify with a scholar you trust for your situation.

Children

Haliable is rated 4+ and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
